1. WINE HOOF

Eater previews Jen Agg’s new wine bar Grey Gardens. In “This Stunning New Wine Bar Will Make You Wish You Lived in Canada”, Agg explains that she’s learned a lot since opening Black Hoof (among many other hotspots) and has put all that learning into this new venture. Also, thankfully, we do live in Canada!

 

2. CHEESY SCIENTISTS

In “Small Cheesemakers Invest in Stinky Science”, The New York Times tells the fascinating story of how star-up artisanal makers in Vermont get around the fact that they don’t have generations of tradition and teaching behind them.

 

3. LOOKIE THIS COOKIE

Lindsey Gazel, head of the eye candy department at Lindsey Bakes, make some awesome, and hilarious, cookies. Toronto Life compiled the best in “This Toronto baker makes cookies that look like everything from Drake to bowls of ramen.” Seriously, scroll down to see her version of “Views from the Six”.

 

4. WHERE WHISKEY IS KING

Punch magazine has been investigating the stranger corners of the Internet, and here’s the latest find: “S*it We Found on Ebay: A Gothic Booze Castle.” The object, made in the 1970s, was being sold in an Arizona city called Surprise. 

 

5. FARMHOUSE IN THE CITY

What exactly is a farmhouse ale? In The Globe and Mail’s “A guide to the funky, anything-goes world of farmhouse ales,” we learn that this is definitely an open question. Certainly, it no longer has anything to do with barns and hay.
