1. MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

If the New York Times declares that “Red Wine Hot Chocolate Is a Thing, and It’s (Surprisingly Delicious)”, we’re inclined to believe it. Indeed, it’s the trend of the season and the recipe is on the easy side: make hot chocolate; add red wine.

2. READERS HAVE SPOKEN

Food 52 digs through their data to offer up “The 50 Recipes You Loved Most in 2016”. Pasta and sweets were tops, say the editors, but they shared one surprise: chick peas are apparently “sexy.”

3. MICHELIN MAN

The headline of Toronto Life’s Where Toronto’s Chowhound King, who’s been to over 100 Michelin-starred restaurants, eats in Markham and Richmond Hill” pretty much says it all. But we’ll say this: we’re charmed these restaurants, this man Charles Yu, and the cute photos of him enjoying his meals.

4. TRUMP GRILLED

It’s hard to miss anything Trump-related, but in case you did, here’s Tina Nguyen’s hilariously biting “Trump Grill Could Be the Worst Restaurant in America”, published in Vanity Fair.

5. HUNKER DOWN

And for when you’re ready to sit and read for a very, very long time, here’s Eater’s “24 Best Longform Food Stories of 2016”. Right at the top of the list is Toronto’s own Navneet Alang, writing for Hazlitt about the altar of hope that is his wine collection.
