1. FIELD TO FACTORY

Flavour. National Pride. Sustainable production. These are just a few reasons that some Italian pasta makers are going with one hundred percent local wheat, as outlined in The New York Times’ “Pastas With a New Selling Point: They’re All Italian”.

2. HANGOVERS, EXPLAINED

If you thought science would one day have a cure for hangovers, you were wrong. But, according to Quartz’s “There’s a reason some drinks give you worse hangovers than others”, we can at least understand what is causing them.

3. MODERATION, EXPLAINED

Wine Folly asks: “Wine and Moderation: What’s Healthy?” The answer, not surprisingly, is… moderation is healthy. We knew that, but of interest for wine drinkers here is some nice graphics breaking down exactly what’s in wine and how it affects us.

4. SERVING UP MINDFULNESS

And speaking of moderation, in The Globe and Mail’s Mind Your Menu: What to Expect from the World of Food and Drink in 2017, food writer Christine Sismondo talks to restauranteurs about the burgeoning “Zero Waste Movement”.

5. OPRAH IN YOUR KITCHEN

It seems unlikely that Oprah hasn’t unleashed recipes on us in book form yet, but it’s true. Eater’s “Oprah’s First Cookbook Has Arrived” gives a preview of what her fans will find in it, including something she calls the “Sexy Breakfast.”
